The Olympic Torch Relay

Nice early start this morning as the Olympic Torch
was passing through Ilminster at 6.57am this morning.
as you can see there was a great turn out.
This is our good friend John Madge enjoying the moment.
This was one of the many support busses.
and this bus was a cracker, a real blast from the past.
This is the message of the flame
I realy like that
and my mind started thinking "Emm - Bowl logo ?

a local road sign to Barrington Court.

and there it goes, the Flame.
another support bus with a map of the tour.
we were lucky to be in a position that saw the flame come back up the road
this time with another lucky torch barer.

This shot gives you a sense of the atmosphere that was just great.
I love the Olympics
I was in Trafalgar Square 7 years ago
when the annoucement was made that London had won the bid.
it was great!
and now here we are watching the flame go past us in Somerset.
Just Great!!

We were fortunate to have the Olympic Games here in Atlanta a few years back, your pictures bring back that excitement to me. You're going to love it.

The historic house I worked at (NOTHING like Barrington Court mind you) hosted the torch as it came through my town on the way to Atlanta. It WAS exciting!

Enjoy!

Sounds like a lot of fun, Paul. Make sure you get into London during the games, if only to enjoy the intensity of the international party atmosphere. I covered Barcelona in '92 and Atlanta four years later and it's great fun even if you don't get to any competitions.

We had the Olympics here in Salt Lake City in 2002. It was an amazing experience to be able to participate in some of the events live. You never really appreciate the Olympics unless you have a chance to have them in your hometown and feel the excitement it generates!
