A Chip of the Old Block.

Whilst browsing through the book stall next to my workshop this week

I came across an old book called

" Collins Nutshell Books"

Pottery & Porcelain

first Published in 1964

Under the section entitled

"Old English Pottery"

it reads as follows

"The pottery made in England in the middle ages was very

obviously a native product. It had well-marked features

not related to continental wares. It was good to look at,

for although homely it was bold in conception and full of

character. While simple it was well balanced and had

dignity, so that taking into account the fact that nearly all

of it was designed for use and not for ornament, the

artistic merit was surprisingly high. It seemed the kind of

Pottery made for honest folk who valued sound reliable

quality above mere showiness."

Now I know why I do what I do.
