New Showroom Hops

Our Hops arrived this week
so we set about putting it up straight away.
I was always wanted to have Hops in the new showroom
and I think it's softened the look
and it compliments the pots nicely.
I'm working on a number of orders at the moment
including some prototypes for the Somerset guild,
a wine cooler for the pub and a wassail cup for
a cider making competition.
Having lots of odd bits to make is nice in some
way's but it's hard to get a rhythm up.

Marion has found a bit of time to start practicing
on the wheel again.
It's nice to watch her in action
and she keeps cutting them all in half at the moment
I'm also making a large green Pancheon for a deli in Winchester
To go with this smaller white one.
Next week we start on an order for a Deli
in Germany, Yes another one
we have to make 150 pots.
I can see some late nights coming on.

A Tale of two days at a show - Day Two

So Bring on Day Two
Like these kids
I was excited,
how well were we going to do today?
Digging for worms.

I hour in no sales!
They came in their droves
 and why not
Hugh was here again signing books.
Plenty of attractions and things to get involved with.
two hours in No sales!
 The weather was great.
 Then the rain came
£5.00 sale
( not a rain mac )
By the time Tim was on
we were up to £40
 Weather the same as yesterday
customers, as many as yesterday,
Stall, just the same as yesterday,
pots on display just the same as yesterday,
In fact most things were better on Sunday
But at the end of the day total sales
£80
What a contrast to Saturday
I have no idea why?
it did kind of burst my bubble a bit
but when I stand back and look at the weekend
£500 was a pretty good show all in all.
But can anyone tell me why one day should
be so different to the second?
Answers on a post card please to
perplexed of Barrington!

A Tale of Two Days at a Show. Day One

So It's River Cottage Autumn Fair
a show we love doing
and a show that we have always done well at.
The weather forecast was a bit - well
British!
We set up the night before as we always do
this year we were able to borrow Wendy & Martin's Van.

As you can see it started out very sunny and bright
if just a tad cooler than the previous week had been.
I got off to a flying start having taken £100
in the first 30 mins.
Now, I never talk about Money on these blogs
I think it's emotive,
But in this case I think it's relevant,
because of the vast difference between the two days!
By 11.30 I was on £200
and the weather was starting to look a bit Ominous!
I had managed to do some Demonstrations as well.
Then the rain came down for a bit
and the Field Kitchen was full to the brim
I'm sure it was full of people enjoying one of Steve's
demonstrations and talks
as much as sheltering from the rain.
These chaps were just happy they wern't in the Kitchen.
I over heard a great line from a lady
trying to convince her husband as to why they should
 buy some Lama's she said
" There's no killing involved".

Then the sun came out again
and more people brought pots,
by this time we were up to £420
My Larger Lipped bowls had sold well
I'd sold 5 in the period of one Hour,
Two sold because they had seen them on Twitter.
Then right at the end the rain came back for another go at us
but by that time I could give a Monkey's
So Day One Sum up
loads of great customers
loads of great comments
loads of great banter
Loads of great sales
Bring on day Two!

Play with Clay @ Barrington Pottery Summer 2013

Well what a start!
over the past 6 weeks Marion has been running
Play with clay
in the new school area of the workshop.
This had been months in the planning with lots
of unseen work in the background by Marion to promote the event
it ran every day except Wednesday
11am - 4pm.
It was on the National Trust web site and a few others
with posters and flyers sent out to local schools before they
shut for the summer break.
 We used air drying clay
so that kids could take home their creations
and paint them when dry.
 Most were Happy!
 Nessy for a simple idea.
The new room seemed to work a treat
with some comfy chairs for the many
grandparents that were looking after kids.
and plenty of room for kids to get involved.
We were even provided with entertainment
when Koby and Archie spent the day with us.
 Some got stuck right in
It was amazing to hear how quiet a room full of kids was
when they were all being creative.
 Making things such as this.
 and this pencil holder.
Animals of all shapes and sizes.
Even a crocodile with a fish in it's mouth!
and we finished of with this little chap
very happy with his afternoons work.
Over 800 kids in total
Marion is now lying down in a dark room
for the next month.
If only she could
were off to The River Cottage Autumn Fair this weekend.
so the workshop and showroom at
Barrington Court will be closed
 Sat 7th & Sun 8th September.
